Pokemon+ Society

Hi everyone! With the start of the new academic year around the corner we have decided to spotlight some of our societies and sports teams to show you what they are all about! Perfect for freshers wanting more information or for second and third years wanting to try out something new… Today its the turn of the Pokemon+ society. I spoke to their treasurer Bethan.

1) What was your inspiration to start the society? The original motivation behind the founding of the society was wanting to create a space where people could enjoy pokemon, mario and other such games.

2) How do you run your meetings and what happens in a typical session? We usually meet every Wednesday night from 6pm, hopefully we will have a hub room when we come back.

3) What Socials are you planning on doing? We meet every week and sometimes run trips to the pokemon store, previously we ran a Mario tournament which was my favourite event. We are also planning on doing some really fun stuff like, pokemon showdowns, Mario events and trading card events.

4) Do you have any membership fees? Or is there anything people may have to pay for? We have no membership fees. However, sometimes when running a prize draw we ask for a small payment for those wishing to take part.

5) What are your main aims for the society as a whole? Our main aims are to have fun, teach people about pokemon, meet new people and build up a fun society.

6) What is your goal for the year? To return to face to face meetings as Covid’s online meetings were fraught with complications. We hope to encourage more people to join and have fun learning about Pokemon.

7) Is there anything a new member might need for the society? No, if you don’t own anything Pokemon related that’s fine, members will always be happy to share and involve you in games.

8) What is your one piece of advice for freshers? Bring enthusiasm and lots of it!

9) Favourite Pokemon?Gliscor – because of their fun and cute personality, I just think they’re really cool!

Keep an eye out for our next amazing society!!

– Josh.
